Well, here I am. I am completely new to just about everything on the 23 things list, so I'm really excited to try some new things!
In response to the article in Thing 1, I feel like there are some really amazing ideas but at the same time it's difficult to imagine a school actually working like that. But, I suppose that where we are now as opposed to 20 years ago would probably have seemed just as unreal! I guess if schools changed to include just a fraction of the ideas in the article, the benefits would be so great that it would encourage more usage of technology. At the same time, there are so many possibilities that it's hard to figure out where to start!
I must say that I currently don't use much technology in my classroom, but I can definitely see how it would be very beneficial to my students. Anything that can help you relate things in a more appealing manner to students is huge, and I'm sure the students are already really familiar with a lot more of these methods than I am. At the same time, when you become so focused on using the technology, do you lose sight of the content? And what about the students with no computer access outside of school? Guess I have some more things to think about!
The idea of putting my thoughts on a blog is a little intimidating- I guess it makes me a little self-conscious too. I imagine that will get better as I get more experienced... hopefully so experienced that I'll feel comfortable using it with my students. I didn't know that it was this simple to set up one of these- the biggest issue I had was with the names...I'm a science teacher, not really the creative type!
